Interregional scientific - practical forum
The history of the industry development in the Carpathian region of Ukraine is closely connected
with the development of railway transportation. The appearance of a number of railway directions with
the width of a track 1435mm (Vienna-Lviv, Lviv-Stanislav-Tchernivci, Stanislav-Kolomyia,
Stanislav-Buchach, Halych-Pidvysoke, Lviv-Potutory) caused the development of barter, stimulated the
industrial manufacturing both within the Austrian-Hungarian empire as a whole, and Galicia in
particular. The intensive development of the forestry complex in Galicia caused the formation of a
network of narrow-gauge railways (width of a track - 750 mm), lining of which was accompanied with
the construction of stationary engineering structures (bridges, ferries, trestles, etc.). The given
system of the narrow-gauge railways was integrated with general system of railway transportation. The
infrastructure formed at that time is still functioning.
Though the narrow-gauge railway transportation remains nowadays one of the most ecologically safe
parts of effective timber storage, but often the way of conducting a wood craft do not require the
complete use of existing lines of narrow-gauge railways. On the one hand, it is caused by some
expenses, which are necessary for operation of existing narrow-gauge railways. On the other hand, the
dismantle of the lines of narrow-gauge railway, which do not have the respective technological
loading, also requires certain expenses, especially at their significant extent. The reduction of the
length of lines of narrow-gauge railway causes the prescheduled disability of the rolling stock,
liquidation of repair and service bases and reduction of the staff of workers. Besides, the unique
resort and recreational features of the Carpathian region with an existing network of narrow-gauge
railways is a perfect basis for creation of a number of tourist routes. The existing narrow-gauge
railways can be united in a network owing to railway or pedestrian routes. The existing stations, road
interchange and forester houses can be used as tourist bases. According to their remoteness from the
basic networks and communications, it requires the organization of their independent warm, water and
electro supply. The usage of narrow-gauge railway in the tourist purposes requires the regular
training of a personnel, both in the field of service of the rolling-stock, and in organization and
service of tourist routes, designing of tourist bases and communications in branch lines of the
narrow-gauge railway. The given forum aims at the consolidation of efforts of the scientists,
practical men, amateurs, tourist clubs, public organizations and interested persons with the purpose
of creation and development of "Carpathian tramway" - source of the organized ecological and
historical- technical tourism in the Carpathian Euro region.
About a forum
The forum will pass in two stages:
- The first stage will pass in Cisna (Poland) the basis of the working narrow-gauge railway of
Bieszczady.
- The second stage - on the basis of the working narrow-gauge railway of Vyhoda forest
industry complex.
- The third stage - in Lviv region on the basis of the Lviv children railway, Lviv tramway and
Lviv region narrow-gauge railways.
The scientific seminar aims at uniting of the scientists, practical men, and amateurs with the
purpose of development of the concept of "Carpathian tramway" - source of the organized ecological
and historical - technical tourism in the Carpathian Euro region.
The expected scientific reports should describe problems connected with designing, development,
operating of the given objects and should determine the basic perspective directions for the
scientific, technological and humanitarian projects with a sufficient level of self-repayment.

The interested persons can present the stand reports.
To take part in a seminar it is necessary to submit to organizing committee the filled application,
placed below, report of 2-6 pages according to the established requirements and registration payment
(50 $).
The confirmation concerning the inclusion in the list of the participants of a seminar is sent not
later than one week before its beginning.
According to the results of a seminar, the organizing committee publishes the collection of the
reports.
